Key Losses: Revenge, Motivation

The NBA’s most consistent team hasn’t been entirely free of drama, as the team recently denied Manu Ginobili from playing in the FIBA World Cup.

Otherwise, business as usual.

They locked up key role players Boris Diaw, Matt Bonner and Patty Mills (who will nurse a shoulder injury to start the season) but grabbed versatile swingman Anderson out of UCLA to plug into the best system in the league.

And while it’s hard to make the annual mistake of counting the Spurs out of contention, the fact is that this team might not be as motivated to win another title after they were able to steamroll the Miami Heat in the Finals. Still, with Duncan’s retirement looming in the horizon (again), perhaps another title is the perfect way for the “Big Fundamental” to ride off into the sunset.
