The Houston Rockets and head coach Kevin McHale have agreed to a three-year contract extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
"Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale has agreed to a three-year contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The three-year deal is worth nearly $13 million, league sources told Yahoo. McHale had been in the final season of his original four-year contract and completed an agreement on a new deal on Wednesday morning, sources said."
McHale was entering the final year of his original deal with the team, and was uncertain if he’d actually remain long-term, after an abrupt playoff exit last season and a combined record of 153-104.
This season, the Rockets have been off to an impressive start, sitting at 4th in the Western Conference with a record of 20-7, and only remain 3 games out of 1st place thanks in large part to McHale’s leadership as a coach, even with superstar center Dwight Howard missing 12 games due to injuries.
The deal is worth a reported $12 to $13 million, and doesn’t include any options or added incentives.
