Larry Sanders Tells Bucks He Doesn’t Want to Play Anymore

These last 2 years have been rough for Bucks’ center Larry Sanders.

Back in the summer of 2013, the big man signed a 4-year, $44 million contract extension with the team, expecting to be a large part of the future moving forward.

Instead, he missed the majority of the 2013-2014 season recovering from a thumb injury sustained in a bar fight, disappointing the franchise that had rewarded him for his stellar play only a year ago.

Now his downward spiral has continued into this season, recently leaving the team on December 23rd for personal reasons, and not citing when exactly he would return.

It wasn’t until a few hours ago Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times reported that Sanders has told Bucks’ management he has no desire to continue playing basketball, wishing to walk away from the city that once believed he could be their answer at center.

It’s unclear if the report from Woelfel is simply speculation or actually true, but Sanders’ decreasing role with the team and sudden leave of absence would back up this theory.

So far this season, Sanders has played fairly poorly when compared to previous years, averaging 7.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks on a pedestrian 21.7 minutes per game.
