Editor’s Note: Instead of our usual intro style to our NBA power rankings, I decided to dedicate this first part to Chris Bosh.

Let me preface myself by saying that in no way do I have a relationship with Chris Bosh. I do not know the man, nor have I ever held a conversation with him.

During this week, Bosh taught us something more than basketball. Beneath the points, rebounds and assists, lies a man that has a family beyond this silly little game we enjoy. And for the past few days, the game that we love, write and talk about endlessly took a back seat.

As we know by now, Bosh’s season ended abruptly this past week due to blood clots on his lungs. While his wife, Adrienne Bosh, might’ve saved his life by urging him to see a doctor last Thursday, this unfortunate circumstance should tell us something more. Basketball isn’t everything.

And it’s not even that important.

Bosh’s prognosis is good, which is important. He’s expected to be back, in his own words “soon.” But that’s not the point.

For a few days last week — in the midst of the craziness that was the NBA trade deadline — basketball took a back seat. For a moment, it was as if none of it mattered. And during that time, it didn’t.

From what we’ve seen with our eyes, Bosh is a great basketball player. From what we’ve read in print and heard over the last few days, he’s an even better human being.

So as you check out our latest edition of our NBA Power Rankings, take a moment to ponder on what’s really important in life. And, if you’re the praying type, send one towards Chris Bosh and his family.

I know I will.
