The Contenders

Miami Heat

When the Heat acquired Goran Dragic, and also his brother Zoran, who is starting to look frighteningly like Chris Smith, they became contenders…for maybe 24 hours.

Not even a day later, Chris Bosh was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs, dashing the season for the Heat star, and at the same time dashing the Heat’s brief time as a real contender. Since the acquisition of the Dragic brothers, and the injury to Bosh, Miami owns an aggressively average record of 7-6, playing just well enough to stay afloat.

It’s really a shame that Bosh got injured, because a starting 5 of Dragic (Goran), Dwyane Wade, Loul Deng, Chris Bosh, and Hassan Whiteside would have been one of the most balanced lineups in the league.

Unfortunately that’s not the case, and as I highlighted in my last piece, it’s going to take Dwyane Wade aging 10 years in reverse in order for the Heat to actually have an effect on any of the major contenders.

But as for their quest for the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, their play should be average enough to keep them hanging around at the very least.
