The Pacers have regressed this season; after losing their star forward Paul George to a gruesome lower leg injury over the summer, their prospects for the season had looked bleak.

But they have somehow stayed afloat thus far, even without a consistent No. 1 scorer, and own the NBA’s best record since the all-star break, going 7-2 in that span. Even better for the Pacers, George looks ready to come back…well, maybe…

After participating in team workouts, and even throwing out a target return date, George has backed off his statements, telling reporters he is “on the fence” and that he doesn’t “want to be that guy that destroys what these guys [the Pacers] have going.”

Sorry Paul, but if this team is going to have a shot, you’re going to need to come back. As much fun as it has been to see the Pacers overachieve without their star, it’s not something that they’ll be able to sustain once they start playing big games in April and May.
