Gone are the days when the most successful athletes in any sport reached their peak as household names around the United States. Today’s athletic stars have built worldwide brands around themselves and become the idols of men, women, and children on a global scale.
In the world of professional basketball, men like Lebron James and Kobe Bryant who have dominated the league for the better part of the 21st Century have risen beyond being the stars of the game itself and solidified themselves as international superstars.
However nothing lasts forever, questions emerge everyday it seems about how many more games men like Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett have left. Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh (aka the stars of one of the most prolific NBA Drafts of all-time in 2003) have all been in the league now for well over a decade and have all eclipsed the 30-year-old mark.
Younger players have risen and moved into place to carry the mantle going forward: Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, etc.
But what happens after them?
That’s what I’m trying to answer. By combing through players already in the NBA, age 23 and under, a list has been made of the top two players (position by position) who exemplify what it takes to be a superstar in the NBA.
These are the faces of the young men who will one day take the growing mantle of international superstardom that comes along with being a top dog in the NBA.
