1. Karl-Anthony Towns, PF, Kentucky
Although the 19-year-old big man from Kentucky didn’t accumulate statistics that demonstrate much dominance, Towns’ versatility and potential makes him the most appealing prospect in this year’s draft.
Standing at 6’11” and weighing 250 pounds, Towns already has a the length and mass to battle with NBA front court players. In addition to his physical attributes, Towns is very mobile and has the ability to hit midrange shots, which makes him a very appealing option on high-low situations and pick and rolls.
Even on the low block, he has shown the ability to make shots over both shoulders with fluidity, though he lacks a wide variety of moves down low. Defensively, Towns was one of, if not the best, shot blocker in the country last season, averaging an absurd 4.3 blocks per 40 minutes.
There’s no question that Towns has a few rough edges and lot to improve on, but his physical ceiling coupled with the flashes of brilliance he has displayed on both ends of the floor, definitely warrants such lofty expectations coming into the draft.
