NBA Matchmaker: Theoretical Trades That Should Be Made This Summer

Wilson Chandler to OKC
Wilson Chandler is another veteran who will be on the Nuggets next season. He’ll most likely be moved (he probably wouldn’t re-sign after next season), and he could be the piece OKC is missing. Oklahoma City has ton of assets to dangle Denver’s way, such as Perry Jones, Jeremy Lamb, Andre Roberson, a lottery pick, and Dion Waiters if anyone still has hope in him.
Denver could grab some group of these young players as they look to rebuild, and the Thunder could get the 3-and-D wing they’ve been missing since Thabo moved on. Andre Roberson is good on defense, but he’s an abysmal shooter, and teams love to help off of him. Teams wouldn’t be able to help off Chandler, and he can defend opposing wings pretty well.
This is also a statement to Kevin Durant, as they would be showing him they are willing to do whatever it takes to win and are willing to trade future assets for guys who can play right now. The addition of Chandler would make them a top-two team in the NBA (with Golden State), and if they bring back Enes Kanter, their five man set of Russ-Chandler-KD-Ibaka-Kanter would be an unstoppable offensive unit.
Swap out Kanter for Steven Adams, and now the Thunder have an elite defensive unit who can also score very well. It also shows they trust Billy Donovan, and are willing to put all of their eggs in his basket.
Roberson may also be expendable with Josh Huestis waiting around in the D-League, and Lamb and Jones have fallen down the depth chart despite some promising play in their young careers.
