5. player. 38.
At this point, Mudiay is without question the best player on the board, but much like the starting guards on the Magic, he can’t shoot and always needs the ball in his hands to be effective. With that being said, the Magic have a couple options.

They could draft a rim protector like Willie Cauley-Stein or a stretch four like Kristaps Porzingis, or maybe a wing like Stanley Johnson, but their best option is Mario Hezonja. WCS is a rim protector, but Niloa Vucevic can’t guard fours and WCS wouldn’t be able to guard a four with range and protect the rim. What they need is a coach like Thibs, who packs the lane and makes sure his wing defenders are good enough to prevent constant penetration.

As for Porzingis, he’s a liability on defense and while he could stretch the floor, him and Vucevic would get killed down low. I would take Hezonja because he can play the two and three, he’s not only a good shooter but a great athlete, and even if they bring Harris back, they could play him at the four.

With that being said, he can evolve into a good enough defender that him, Payton, and Oladipo could form a fearsome perimeter corps on defense. They would also have some tremendous athletes on the wings, and he fits in with what they’re trying to build.
. SG. Croatia. Mario Hezonja
