Joseph Young, PG, Oregon | Indiana Pacers, 43rd pick
Just like Tyler Harvey, Joseph Young is an undersized SG. His skill? Scoring the rock. The reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year, Young, averaged 20.7 PPG and shot 44 percent from the field during the season.
The Pacers were 23rd in offensive efficiency this season, and it’s clear their main focus during the draft was offense.
"“Joe’s going to push the ball and make shots. He’s active,” Pacers president Bird said. “We liked Joe all year, pretty surprised he’d be there but he’s there and we got him and now we just got to get him integrated into what we’re trying to do and hopefully we can get the ball up and down the court a little bit faster.”"
With George Hill starting at point guard, Young has a great opportunity. He’s on a team that needs help in one of his strengths. It’s unlikely that Young will start this year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pacers eventually gave him a good 15 to 20 minutes off the bench a night.
Young will be in the game for one reason and one reason only — Scoring. Don’t expect him to pass, expect him to get buckets. I really like his game and I think he can stick around in the NBA as a sixth man.
