NBA Rumors: Jim Buss reportedly had a three-year plan to save the Los Angeles Lakers, here’s why he needs to step down as soon as possible
Jim Buss said that he had a three-year plan to get the Los Angeles Lakers back on top. As the Lakers enter year 2 of that plan, one thing is certain, it’s not working.
Lakers president Jeanie Buss continues to take her brothers words at face value when he said he will step down if his plan fails. To the die hard Lakers fans, we are in a tough spot as we want the team to succeed but we also want Jim gone. The Lakers have always been a family business so you can imagine the side-eyes Jim gets at family functions when basketball is discussed.

How could you destroy one of the most storied franchises in all of sports?
I cut him a little slack, as he did not foresee the injuries to Kobe Bryant the last two years, but what about the rest of the roster? You let Pau Gasol go, brought in Jermey Lin and Carlos Boozer, two washed up players praying that their last few seasons were just a fluke, and somehow the Lakers purple and gold would transform them back to their glory days.
While every other team in the Western Conference gains confidence and improves its roster, Jim is forgetting that time waits for no one, not even for the invincible Black Mamba.
To Jim’s credit, the Lakers have drafted pretty well, but even that is a stretch as we have yet to see what their last two lottery picks can do. Julius Randle went down early last season and missed the year and we still haven’t witnessed what the Lakers describe as a home run with this year’s No. 2 pick in D’Angelo Russell.
Can they save the Lakers?
What about free agency that started a few days ago? The Lakers have been banking on getting someone to take the throne from Kobe, but so far nothing. They met with LaMarcus Aldridge and reports are that it didn’t go well, so they managed to snag another meeting and will now put the full-court pressure on — again.
This meeting alone should decide the fate of Buss, not his three-year plan.
It’s obvious Aldridge wants to play in Los Angeles, or at least has a great deal of interest. Why else would he give them a second chance? They were the first team he visited, plus he gets to stay in the Western Conference. If Buss can’t convince Aldridge to wear the purple and gold, then he should be fired on the spot.
Ed Davis was a player that deserved more minutes, when on the court he produced at a high rate, but signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. The same can be said for Jordan Hill. How exactly does Buss intend to rebuild this team?
This is how the Lakers viewed their offseason. They had the chance to get two of the three top players this offseason and might missed out on both. On draft night they had their shot at the best player in the draft in Jahlil Okafor, but passed on him to take Russell.
Now in free agency, they have the opportunity to get Aldridge and are about to blow that as well.
Time is running out.
Blood is thicker than water, they say, but Jeanie must step in at some point and take control of the situation before her father’s hard work turns into West Coast version of the Philadelphia 76ers.
The three year plan has already failed. Walk away Jim and make your sister, the fans and most importantly your dad proud.
