Shaquille O’Neal: One Of The Biggest Underachievers in NBA History?
By Mark Wilson
The Golden Age
Los Angeles Lakers (1996-2004)
This is where Shaq’s history is well documented. He teamed up with Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson to begin a great dynasty by winning three-straight NBA championships.
Could it have been more? Yes, but speculation was that he and Kobe didn’t get along and the golden empire came tumbling down.
Their teams were never really loaded with other superstars, but they always found common ground to win. Shaq should have left the Lakers with four rings but the team of Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone and Gary Payton could not get it done against the Detroit Pistons in 2004.
Shaq didn’t like the losing, or the tension with Kobe, so off to Miami he went.
