10. Brad Stevens, Boston Celtics
So 65-99 may not look like a spectacular record on paper, but neither does the Celtics roster. Brad Stevens took the Celtics back to the playoffs much sooner than anyone expected. Yes, Boston was swept in the first round, but the Celtics made several improvements over the summer and we could be seeing them back in the playoffs next year.
When Stevens left Butler for Boston, I wasn’t sure how a head coach from a relatively small D1 school would fair in the NBA, but despite his young age, Stevens has managed to keep his team in control and has given them the energy they need to play with.
Boston is a young team, and Stevens is a young coach. He uses the team’s lack of experience as an advantage by using a more collegiate style of play, and having his big men play more face-to-the-basket. Stevens earned this spot for his innovative coaching style, and definitely not for his record.
