Normally, losing a player like Dante Exum for the year would case a team to drop in a depth based power rankings. However, don’ forget Alec Burks‘ return. After missing the majority of last year, Burks looks to return with a bang.
It is still unclear of what Utah’s starting lineup will be. The point guard spot could go between either Trey Burke or Raul Neto. Even Burks could slide to the point to allow Rodney Hood to start at shooting guard.
Trevor Booker will play a major role off the bench again this season and Joe Ingles will continue his “glue guy” status. Elijah Millsap also figures to play some minutes in the absence of Exum.
The big question is how much time will Trey Lyles see this year. The Jazz seem high on their rookie and expect him to see some time from the start.
If Burke can somehow translate his collegiate success to the NBA, the Jazz could become a force to be reckoned with. His horrendously poor shooting statistics must improve in order for the Jazz to make the playoffs in the competitive Western Conference.
The fantastic fans in Utah have many things to be excited about. Could be Rudy “The Stifle Tower” Gobert, Derrick Favors or Gordon Hayward. It could be a combination of all three, but ultimately their bench also leaves some room for excitement.
