NBA Power Rankings: Breaking Down Every Team’s Second Unit

7. Los Angeles Lakers

2014-2015 Efficiency Rating: 44.3

Everybody is wondering how the Lakers made the top-10. In reality, the Lakers bench last season was the 4th most efficient bench in the entire NBA. Yes, you read that correctly. They were also the 4th highest scoring bench last season (39.4ppg).

Yes, the Lakers will probably not be all that good next season. They struck out in free agency, so they settled for Lou WilliamsBrandon Bass and Roy Hibbert. Who knows how Kobe Bryant will play coming back from a significant injury as well.

Their roster does have a lot of question marks all around, but the bench figures to be actually decent. Adding last year’s Sixth Man of the Year in Williams is a great move and he figures to have plenty of opportunities for efficiency. Nick “Swaggy P” Young also will get time, not sure if that is necessarily a positive or not.

Bass will also be a nice consistent backup to Julius Randle, who has proved to be efficient throughout his career, especially from midrange.

The Lakers will not make the playoffs, that much is pretty clear. There are tons of questions and things to look at when considering the roster. Will Roy Hibbert perform better than he did in Indiana last season? What Kobe Bryant will be on the court? Will they regret drafting D’Angelo Russell over Jahlil Okafor? Who knows to the answers to these questions, but there is one thing that should give fans solace.

At least their bench figures to be one bright spot for this season.
