NBA Rumors: Mavs Tried to Convince Steve Nash to Unretire

The Dallas Mavericks reportedly tried to convince Steve Nash to join the team after a charity baseball game in late June.

The Dallas Mavericks reportedly tried to convince point guard Steve Nash to come out of retirement and join the team, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

This news came shortly after reports that Nash was in negotiations to join the Golden State Warriors as a part-time player development consultant.

Ironically, the Cleveland Cavaliers also tried to convince Steve Nash to join their team before the start of last season, when he was still under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Unfortunately, Nash’s playing days are more than likely behind him, given the fact he officially announced his retirement back in March and even stated he would likely never play again.

Nash spent 6 seasons with the Mavericks, leading them to 4 straight playoff appearances and an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2003.

He would later part ways with the team after the 2003-2004 season and join the Phoenix Suns, where he won 2 MVP awards and evolved into one of the most elite point guards in the league.
