6. Bobby Hurley, Sacramento Kings

Drafted: 7th Overall Pick, 1993

College: Duke, ’93 All-American

Bobby Hurley was to become the next great point guard in the NBA. He was a basketball GOD while attending Duke University. National Championships, All- American honors, great handle, court vision, great defender, finisher, shooter – and the list can go on.

It wasn’t like he faced sub-par competition in college, either. Hurley squared off against the Fab Five, Larry Johnson and that deadly UNLV team, Sam Cassell, Travis Best and many others – and held his own. His game was definitely NBA-ready, but it doesn’t always go the way it should when you hit the big leagues.

Once drafted by the Kings, he never seemed to find his niche. He was to be the starter, but he couldn’t handle the duties of a 30-plus minute NBA point guard, where the opponents were not only quicker but seemed to have a mental advantage over him as well.

He was involved in a car accident his rookie year, managed to come back, but his game was never the same once he left Duke. Hurley fizzled out of the NBA after six seasons.
