Detroit Pistons – Questionable Future

The Detroit Pistons seem to be in a similar place as their division rivals, the Indiana Pacers. They both have a star (or in the Pistons case a potential star) who they plan to build their roster around for years to come, however both enter this season with a group of veterans and young guys around their star who don’t seem to mesh at first glance. The major difference is that the Pistons crop of players, for the most part, would typically sit at the end of the bench on most other NBA squads.

Andre Drummond is their unquestioned building block as they move into the foreseeable future, and the hope is that he can emerge as league’s next dominating center who can bully other bigs in the paint with his size and athleticism.

Around Drummond are players like Joel Anthony, Aron Baynes, Reggie Bullock, Danny Granger, Jodie Meeks, and Anthony Tolliver – they all have played roles on other teams, but in all likelihood wouldn’t get very much playing time on another team that’s built to win.

Another crucial element of what the Pistons look like going forward will stem from the ensuing point guard battle between Brandon Jennings and Reggie Jackson. Both players have had bright spots in their past, but the question still remains about whether they can be leaders on a winning franchise or not. By mid-season we should certainly get a taste of whom the Pistons will plan to feature at the helm of their offensive attack.
