With the NBA regular season upon us, we take a look at five potential MVP candidates for the 2015-16 campaign

The NBA’s regular season officially begins this week and it is time to take a look at the top MVP candidates entering the season. There of course are some usual suspects as well as some players who are looking to take the next step.

The MVP can sometimes be a tricky category. More often than not, team success factors greatly into the voter’s mind. If you break down the term most valuable player – it does not mean the best player on the best team. But, unfortunately, this seems to be the case when it comes to who actually wins the award.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Before I end up going on some kind of major rant about the semantics of the NBA MVP award, I must digress slightly.

Last year’s MVP (Stephen Curry) was obviously the best player on the best team. Not to say he did not deserve the award, because he very well appeared to be qualified. The issue is, was he the most valuable?

That is the key word. If you take James Harden off of the injury decimated Rockets last season, are they still a number two seed or do they even make the playoffs? It’s a question just to get you thinking.

There are some names that obviously make the honorable mention list. Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Russell Westbrook are a few of the names that come to mind, even though they did not crack the top 5.

Who did you may ask? Time to find out.
