With the NBA regular season upon us, we take a look at a few potential Rookie of the Year candidates for the 2015-16 campaign

The time is almost here for the young NBA rookies to try to prove themselves in the NBA regular season. There will be bumps and bruises and learning curves for each rookie for sure, but this draft class looks to be sneaky strong.

When considering the candidates, I actually took a few leaps and that is okay. Everyone can pretend they are an expert and can project how a player performs, but really no one knows for sure.

One notable player I do not have in the top-5 is D’Angelo Russell. Look, I know that Lakers fans will want to hang me like it’s the wild west but there are some reasons to believe he will not be a top 5 rookie.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

He did not look great during the preseason or summer league and I think he has the potential to be something great…just not this season. Kobe is out to prove something and rising talent Jordan Clarkson will take away from his opportunities exponentially. Wait…did I even mention Swaggy P, Nick Young? Not mention his passes will be flying at Roy Hibbert down low, who is not known for his finishing prowess around the rim.

Otherwise, there are some great candidates to carry the proverbial torch for their teams this season. There are throwback big men, new style big men, talented scorers, and star caliber point guards. I believe this draft will prove to be a very deep and talented group.

Without further ado, it is time to see who the top 5 prospects are for the Rookie of the Year award this season.
