Kevin Love is the focal point of the Cavaliers…say what?

LeBron James made some waves by saying Kevin Love will be the focal point of the Cleveland Cavaliers. No offense to the shaggy haired Love, but less LeBron is never the answer. Now after losing their opener to Chicago, the Cavaliers rebounded with two demonstrative victories over the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat.

But still, LeBron should not take a step back. After single-handedly leading the Cavs to the Finals last season, he is entitled to some rest of course. But while he is out there he needs to be the best player on the court in order for the Cavs to have a shot at a title.

Not saying that he is not a good player, because he is. He had 24 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists in Cleveland’s 102-92 win over the Heat. He used screens to get open for 3s and made some of his signature outlet passes that led to easy transition buckets. They can be entertaining team, especially when Kyrie Irving comes back.

Now in a weaker Eastern Conference, Cleveland can afford to put in on cruise control if you will – but as the season progresses LeBron needs to elevate his game. Who knows how healthy Kyrie Irving will stay after his return (again knock on wood) and let’s face it – a team cannot win a championship with Kevin Love as the focal point.

It could have just been some verbal pump-up coaching from LeBron to get Love’s confidence up to where it needs to be. You know if Cleveland struggles LeBron will make himself the vocal point. There is no doubt about that.
