In our latest edition of NBA Power Rankings, we look at why it’s important not to forget about the San Antonio Spurs
During the summer, it was impossible to do so. At that time, everyone – yes, even Spurs haters – was going out of their way to acknowledge what they were doing. Some liked it, some disliked it. Either way, they were being talked about.
Now, all of a sudden, the Spurs are somewhat falling back into the NBA background, as they have done time and time again, under the tutelage of Gregg Popovich, during the regular season. But it’s not safe – or smart – to do that this time around.
As the Warriors continue to do unprecedented things in the NBA following their historic championship season, the Spurs have been the second most impressive team this year. Had it not been for the Warriors, San Antonio would be getting all the headlines that the Warriors are deservedly receiving. San Antonio is the only other team in the NBA that is beating teams by an average of double-digits and are the only other team in the NBA that are ranked in the top-5 of both offensive and defensive ratings.
The fact that the Spurs have looked this good this early is scary. The Spurs have lost two games this season, both by a combined nine points.
Here is this week’s NBA Power Rankings, where the Spurs quietly continue to move up.
