In this week’s NBA Power Rankings edition, we breakdown the Warriors and Spurs upcoming matchup to settle the debate of the NBA’s best
Tonight’s matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors may be the biggest regular season game in NBA history. I can’t remember one that was being hyped up this much – not one in January.
The debates will finally begin to be settled. One will be able to take a step forward, while the other will go back to the drawing board.
Even after tonight, we won’t confidently be able to say that the Spurs or Warriors – whoever wins – is the better team, or the best in the NBA. That will be decided in late May.
But, in the meantime, it’ll be nice to see the two best teams in the NBA go head-to-head for the first team. The best part of this matchup is that even though the Warriors are the defending NBA Champions and on pace to break the 72-win plateau, the Spurs have statistically been the better team this season.
San Antonio has a 15.3 net rating this season and have the best defense in the NBA by a mile. The Warriors sport the better offense, but “only” carry a 13.7 net rating. San Antonio also leads the NBA in field goal percentage this season. Golden State, predictably, leads the league in three-point percentage (42.4%). Though, the Spurs aren’t far behind (38.5%).
Even with Tim Duncan not playing, which has been reported, this game has the potential to be the best of the year – by far. And you’re not going to want to miss it.
In the meantime, here are this week’s NBA Power Rankings.
