Make no mistake, the move would require a contradiction of a lot of factors that have long been held about the Thunder duo. Among them, the notion that Durant and Westbrook have grown too big perform to the best of their potential while co-existing with each other on the court.
Durant remains one of the best players in the world while Westbrook is a triple-double machine this season. Both players have talents that could easily command their own team. But the lure of the bright lights of Hollywood have caused a stir that Durant could leave for the Lakers in 2016 and Westbrook following him a year later.
Assuming the scenario comes to pass, some part of the Lakers developing young core is likely to be shipped out to put the right pieces around them. More than likely, D’Angelo Russell would be moved to bring in a more serviceable center than Roy Hibbert.
While the man in the middle remains a mystery, the chance to create a line-up that includes Durant, Westbrook, Jordan Clarkson, and Julius Randle in Los Angeles could just be too big to pass up.
