Jeff Van Gundy

Last Job: Head Coach, Houston Rockets (2003-07)

This is probably another dream scenario of mine, but I would love nothing more than to see Jeff Van Gundy back in the NBA. And what better way for him to make his return, then to do with with the New York Knicks?

What makes this all the more interesting is that Van Gundy nearly made his move back to the league this past summer, when he was reportedly interested in the New Orleans Pelicans job. Unfortunately, that interest wasn’t mutual. Ultimately, the job went to Alvin Gentry.

But if Van Gundy really wants back into the NBA, this might actually work. However, if the reports are accurate that the only way Van Gundy returns to the NBA is if he is given complete control of the team – like his brother, Stan, has in Detroit – than it’s probably unlikely it’ll happen with the Knicks.

There’s zero chance Van Gundy will be able to pry power out of the hands of Phil Jackson.
