NBA Trade Rumors: The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to snag Carmelo Anthony away from the Knicks; dangling Kevin Love
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the most busy teams in the weeks leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline. And that’s not going to change anytime soon.
The Cavs know that what they have right now isn’t enough to beat a team like the Golden State Warriors in a seven-game series. Even though they fell in six games to these similar Warriors with an unhealthy roster in last year’s NBA Finals, they’ve been outclassed by the Warriors numerous times this season – when healthy.
So, for the Cavs to stand pat at the NBA Trade Deadline would be foolish and naive. They simply can’t afford to throw away another one of LeBron James‘ prime years. Especially when you don’t know how many he has left.
And one interesting rumor that is currently making the rounds is one in which would land Carmelo Anthony with his old buddy in Cleveland. Kevin Love, who has struggled to fit during his 1.5 year with the Cavs, would land with the Boston Celtics.

"[via New York Daily News]The Daily News has learned that the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a blockbuster trade centered around Kevin Love. There were very preliminary discussions about expanding the deal to include the Knicks and Anthony, who would have to waive his no-trade clause in order to facilitate a deal to the Cavs. The Knicks would receive draft picks and players in return. One of those players is believed to be Timofey Mozgov, who five years ago was traded by the Knicks to Denver in the Anthony deal. Those talks have not progressed. Plus Anthony reiterated on Friday that he has no plans to seek a trade."
This trade would actually make at least some sense to everyone involved.
The Cavs would shakeup their roster and would add an element that this team simply doesn’t have with Love on the roster. Playing Melo at the 4, instead of Love, against the Warriors’ lineup of death would give the Cavs at the very least a fighting chance. Even though they’d be trading a bit of their future, LeBron needs to win now. And Melo probably gives him a better chance of doing that.
For the Celtics, they would get the star that Danny Ainge has been desperately looking for. Plus, it’s no secret that the Celtics have envied Love from afar.
And the Knicks, well this is probably the best chance for them to trade Melo. And if they can snag Brooklyn’s 2016 unprotected first-round pick away from the Celtics, they could add another young piece to develop next to Kristaps Porzingis.
