In this week’s NBA Power Rankings edition, we discuss the noise heading into the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors rematch
The first time that the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors played this season, it was no match. The Warriors outclassed the Spurs, which has been seemingly impossible to do in the last two decades, by the tune of a 30-point blowout.
Even though the Spurs were without Tim Duncan, it was made loud and clear that the team to beat in the Western Conference is going to be the Warriors, despite the narrative that the Spurs, with more experience, the better head coach and added depth, would be the team to beat in April and May.
There was just no answer for the offensive flurry of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, nor the suffocating defense of Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes. Golden State, by all accounts, appeared head and shoulders better than the Spurs, which should’ve been the ultimate warning sign to the rest of the NBA.
But, for the most part, there has been hesitation on the narrative that the Warriors are that much better than the Spurs. However, since Jan 1, the Spurs and Warriors are nearly dead even across the board. Considering that the Spurs have had to battle through more injuries than the Warriors have had, that’s quite impressive.
Still, the ultimate test will be when the two teams square off for the second time this season. Saturday in San Antonio.
Here are this week’s NBA Power Rankings.
