NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant signing with the Boston Celtics this summer makes a lot of sense, and that’s probably why it won’t happen
When discussing where Kevin Durant could land this summer, when he becomes an unrestricted free agent, more often than not the teams that get mentioned are the same old suspects – the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors – sprinkled in with his incumbent Oklahoma City Thunder and hometown Washington Wizards.
But one team that probably makes the most sense, other than re-signing with the Thunder, has been getting almost zero traction in the Kevin Durant to (insert team) campaign.
That team being the Boston Celtics.
Think about it. The Celtics have young assets, so they could theoretically work a sign-and-trade with the Thunder, a solid group of players that could easily transform into a great supporting cast and one of the hottest young coaches in the NBA.

The Celtics are currently the third seed in the Eastern Conference without a superstar, imagine what they’d look like with perhaps the second best player in the NBA.
With all that known, the Boston Celtics, for some reason, haven’t been viewed as a true contender to snag the most prized free agent this summer.
Until now.
"[via ESPN]With Boston positioned to fish again this summer for that elusive big catch that could propel the team forward, the Celtics would covet the chance to pitch Boston as a possible destination when Durant reaches unrestricted free agency.Scoff if you want — and most will — the Celtics are in position to make an intriguing sales pitch to any star talent that becomes available."
For starters, giving Kevin Durant the option to escape the gauntlet that the Western Conference has become over the last few seasons would be a huge selling point for the Celtics, and any other Eastern Conference team.
Second, the Celtics have a plethora of young, talented players that you could stick next to Durant. You can even make the argument that, apart from Russell Westbrook, the Celtics are almost as talented as OKC’s roster.
Plus, let’s not forget that Boston is probably going to add a top 5 NBA Draft pick this summer, thanks to the Brooklyn Nets.
Everything that the Boston Celtics are and have been this season suggests that they’re one big summer signing away from being a real player in the Eastern Conference. Maybe Kevin Durant will be that guy?

If he really wants to move on from the Oklahoma City Thunder and still wants to be THE guy on a contender, perhaps signing with the Celtics is the best option for Durant after all.
