Hiring Hoiberg
It all started on June 2, 2015 when the Chicago Bulls signed head coach Fred Hoiberg to a five-year contract. Now this piece’s purpose isn’t to lament Hoiberg. I don’t know many Bulls fans who loved the hire, so his failure was presumed.
And it’s not really Hoirberg’s fault; he’s simply not the right fit. Hoiberg’s system at Iowa State, a format that provided a blue print for four straight seasons of leading the Big 12 in points, didn’t translate for a roster full of lumbering giants and isolation wingmen. Plus he was a front office guy, which essentially means management knew him, liked him, so they hired him.
So from the moment he stepped foot on to the practice court, the players knew he was management’s toy and not a locker room leader. Hence the power struggle between he and team captain Jimmy Butler.
