The Golden State Warriors look to take a communing 2-0 series lead against the Rockets tonight but first, what was with Stephen Curry‘s postgame hat?
No, not RUN DMC, but RUN TMC.
Before Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson were running the NBA on behalf of the Golden State Warriors, there was Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin, better known as “Run TMC”.
But, for you millennials, what does Run TMC mean? It’s actually pretty simple.
The acronym consists of the first initials of each of their names, and a nod to the legendary rap group, RUN DMC.
“Nellie Ball”, created by Don Nelson, is a fast-paced run-and-gun offense relying on players who can create mismatches by outrunning their opponents, and taking a lot 3-point attempts.
Additionally, a true center is not usually needed. Even though the Warriors do have Andrew Bogut at their disposal, it’s usually Draymond Green getting the crunch time minutes at center. The up-tempo style that helped Run TMC lead the league in scoring during their first season together is now the dominant offense used none other than the team with the best single season record under their belt.
They’re also attempting to win their second straight NBA Championship, led by the projected back-to-back NBA MVP.
Boy was that was a premonition of things to come.
