Miami Heat

After the departure of LeBron James in 2014, nobody thought Miami could rebuild this quickly. But for the intelligence of Pat Riley and the emergence of Hassan Whiteside, the Heat fell one game short of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The two biggest things that the Heat must do this offseason, to ensure that they continue on this upward trend, are:

  1. Re-sign all their Unrestricted Free Agents
  2. Add scoring help

The Heat have defensive-mastermind Luol Deng, high-flyer Gerald Green, faithful-vet Udonis Haslem, veteran-scorer Joe Johnson, big-man A’mare Stoudemire, faithful-team captain Dwyane Wade, rising-star Hassan Whiteside, and spot-shooter Dorrell Wright all hitting free agency this summer.

Whiteside is the big name here who is easily the most coveted of their free agents. Re-signing the league-leading shot blocker is the most important aspect of the Heat’s entire free agency.

After the signing of Whiteside, my key player for the Heat to pursue is Nic Batum from Charlotte. Having a future centered around Justise Winslow and Nic Batum, along with the veteran core of Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade, would go a long way in this team taking the next step.

In the NBA, things can drastically change thanks to the phenomenon that is free agency. And with the rising salary cap, this summer will be historically crazy.
