After being stunned in Game 1 at home, the Golden State Warriors rebounded by throttling the Oklahoma City Thunder to even the series
The Golden State Warriors used a little bit of everything in Game 2, and it paid off in evening the series against the Thunder 1-1.
Whether it was a circus shot by Andre Iguodala to end the first half or another unreal barrage of threes from Stephen Curry, the Thunder had no answer for Golden State’s counter-punch in Game 2.
Kevin Durant had a superb first half for OKC, scoring 23 of the teams 49 points. However, it was the high flying Iguodala who stole the show with a carnival type shot that ignited the crowd. He followed it up with a dunk later to help put the Warriors up by eight.
Curry caught fire in the third quarter, making 15 straight points to help put the Warriors ahead by more than 20 in the third. Several of those were from three-point range, including a dagger where he released the shot and stared down the defending Serge Ibaka before the ball went into the basket.
More notably, Curry injured his right elbow in a tumble before going on that remarkable run. In his postgame interview with Marv Albert, Curry’s elbow was notably swollen.
The Thunder never found a rhythm to get back into the game as Durant and Westbrook were taken out before the final quarter was even halfway finished.
Steph Curry finished with 28, while Klay Thompson had 15. Andre Iguodala added a vital 12 off the bench.
Kevin Durant ended with 29, while Russell Westbrook had 16 in what was a far more subdued night compared to Game 1 for the electric superstar.
The response is huge for the Golden State as they now look to win on the road in Oklahoma City to retake homecourt advantage.
For OKC, their lack of composure under fire showed as they turned the ball over 16 times. More concerning, they lost the battle on the boards as they were out-rebounded 45 to 36.
The Golden State Warriors bench also outperformed OKC’s second unit 50 to 29 after being vastly overpowered in Game 1.
While the series now returns to Oklahoma City, the big question will be how the Thunder respond at such a crucial juncture.
At this stage, things could go either way for the squad. The team was blown-out in Game 1 against the Spurs and went on to play some of their best basketball ever to win the series.
Mentally however, the question is raised once again if the Thunder have what it takes to make the run to the Finals. After being swept in the regular season by the Warriors, Oklahoma has to rebound at home if they want to avoid losing the home-court advantage they fought to obtain.
