In our WNBA power rankings, the Minnesota Lynx and Los Angeles Sparks continue their early season dominance to undefeated records
With the WNBA well underway, there’s two teams well ahead of the others. However, after that, there are plenty of shuffling that could take place in a matter of time.
Let’s take a look at where each of the WNBA teams stand thus far in the season.
Here are our first WNBA Power Rankings.
1. Minnesota Lynx (11-0): This was tough considering there’s another undefeated team in the league, but I gave the edge to the defending champs. Last night the Lynx became the first WNBA team to start a season 11-0, and they lead the league in FG%.

2. Los Angeles Sparks (10-0): They set a franchise record last night beginning the season 10-0. Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike are playing very well. Lastly, defense has been big for the Sparks this year; they have an 85.8 defensive rating which is the league’s best. Hopefully both the Sparks and Lynx are still undefeated when the meet on June 21st.
3. Atlanta Dream (7-3): The Dream have the third best record in the league at 7-3, and are 1st in the Eastern Conference. Angel McCoughtry is second in the league in scoring (20.3 PPG), and is the centerpiece of this team. Tiffany Hayes, Lyttle, Williams and Calderon are making noise for the Dream as well, team chemistry seems to be the thing that has the Dream on track.
4. New York Liberty (6-4): Tina Charles, Tina Charles, and did I say Tina Charles? The Liberty pride themselves on the defensive end, but have the 4th worst offensive rating in the league. Despite this, they’ve collected four wins in the last five games moving their record to 6-4.
5. Chicago Sky (5-6): Opening up the season losing four of their first five games, the Sky recently went on a four-game winning streak that was ended Sunday by the Mercury. They lead the league in assists and both Elena Delle Donne, and Cappie Pondexter are playing well. I think defense is an issue for this team, which can ultimately hurt them.
6. Phoenix Mercury (4-6): They’ve been bad, real bad; Michael Jackson on the defensive end so far this year. They currently have the worst defensive rating, and give up the most points in the league at 88.6 points allowed per game. While they haven’t looked as dominant as they did in 2014, Diana Taurasi is one of the league’s best players along with Britney Griner, so I have no doubt they’ll turn this around, and move up in rankings.
7. Seattle Storm (4-7): Sue Bird and Jewell Lloyd are playing quite well for the Storm while Breanna Stewart is 2nd in the league in rebounds. This team should get better as the season goes on, and could make the playoffs.
8. Indiana Fever (4-7): They don’t look like a team that competed for a title last year. It’s still early in the season though, so anything can happen. Tamika Catchings is a veteran and Tiffany Mitchell has played well as a rookie.
9. Washington Mystics (5-7): Emma Meesseman was named this week’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week, but the Mystics have one of the youngest rosters in the WNBA. Although they’re young, they’re gritty, and they could possibly be in the hunt for the final playoffs position.
10. Dallas Wings (3-7): They’re on a six-game losing streak, but Skylar Diggins and Glory Johnson have just recently made appearances in games for the Wings. Also, rookie Aerial Powers is playing well off the bench. It seems Diggins is back in the starting lineup for good, and this should take pressure off of Odyssey Sims. Lastly, whenever Diggins gets back in rhythm, expect the Wings to be a much better team.

11. Connecticut Sun (2-9): One of the youngest teams in the WNBA with the potential to be good in a few years, but they’re just not there yet.
12. San Antonio Stars (2-7): They are just 2-7, but add a few more rookies and pieces along with Kayla McBride and Moriah Jefferson, they should be okay in a few years.
