13. Phoenix Suns: Domantas Sabonis
The decision by Gonzaga big man, Domantas Sabonis, not to attend the pre-draft combine was certainly questionable at best. It’s a move that could lead to him dropping out of the first round altogether. I like to exist in a world however, where in game performance is valued far more than participation in the usual draft process.
That being said I like him as a pickup for either the Suns here at 13, or the Bulls next at 14. With the Suns picking the athletic, high-upside Jaylen Brown at 4, I have to imagine we’ll see see them go with a post player here to pair with the improving Alex Len.
Sabonis provides an NBA ready offensive game from the paint and the ability to step away to knock down the occasional mid range shot. In addition he runs the floor well for a player his size, which lends itself to the fast-pace style associated with the Suns’ two Point Guard sets. His relentless effort on both the offensive and defensive glass is an attribute that can only serve to help a team that tends to run undersized rotations.
