NBA: Ranking The Top 7 Free Agent Small Forwards
By Jack Jameson
4. Harrison Barnes, Golden State Warriors, Restricted
2015-16 Stats: 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 47 FG%, 37 3PT%
Harrison Barnes was bad in the Finals. He was very bad. But teams are still going to go after Barnes, who is a restricted free agent. I originally had Barnes at three on my list, but dropped him due to his performance in the postseason.
Postseason aside, Barnes is one of the biggest risks in free agency, because any team that picks him up will likely be paying him a max or near max deal. Barnes is currently the fourth or fifth option on the Golden State Warriors offense, and fills his role well acting as both a spot up shooter and filling lanes in transition. On defense Barnes is tasked with being a solid defender.
A team is going to pay Barnes this offseason to be something more than this; to be a primary option on offense and become a defensive stopper on defense. The gamble will be if Barnes can become that person, and we will only find that out with time.
