NBA Draft Grades 2016: Sixers, Nuggets Finally Get It Right
By Tony Webb
Golden State Warriors
Draft Picks: Damian Jones No. 30, Patrick McCaw No. 38
73-9. The best record in NBA history. The League MVP. The NBA Cham….oh wait, the Warriors fell just short of being considered the best team in league history.
With the courting of Kevin Durant as the main focus of the Warriors, the draft focused on adding depth and youth to The City. Jones, big in size and a rim-protector, is looked at as being the replacement for fellow Vanderbilt Commodore Festus Ezeli. Jones went into the draft with a diagnosed pectoral injury that required surgery, but didn’t raise enough concerns to prevent the selection.
McCraw was acquired from Milwaukee, who is a no-risk pick, that has length and defends the ball well, with the ability to score. McCraw adds insurance for the impending departure of restricted free agent Harrison Barnes.
This draft wasn’t going to make or break the Warriors as they grabbed two perennial role players in hopes to return to championship glory
