NBA Draft Grades 2016: Sixers, Nuggets Finally Get It Right
By Tony Webb
Boston Celtics
Draft Picks: Jaylen Brown No.3, Guerschon Yabusele No. 16, Ante Zizic No. 23, Demetrius Jackson No. 45, Ben Bentil No. 51, Abdel Nader No. 58
Eight. Eight draft picks the Celtics owned. Although they ended up with only six after a trade with Memphis, Danny Ainge and company had an interesting, but plentiful draft.
Speculation all night continued if the C’s were going to make the big move to obtain a superstar. That move did not happen, but Jaylen Brown at number three surprised many. Brown, an athletic scorer, who can open the floor up, rebound well and has the potential to a top defensive player, could come off the bench immediately and eventually become a starter. For a team looking to contend in the East immediately, Brown is a bit of a question mark.
Zizic and Yabusele most likely will be stashed away for a season or two, but could both contribute in future. I have soft spots for Bentil ( sho I personally love) and Nader (as a life-long Iowa State fan), but they could be battling for a roster spot and will both most likely end up in the NBA’s D-League next season
I still like the Celtics as a whole, and Jaylen Brown does help, but I was hoping for a big time splash for a superstar, which could still happen, but for now the Celtics are just building on their young, talented team.
