Jared Dudley, Phoenix Suns

Contract: Three-year, $30M

Although an odd signing for a rebuilding franchise such as the Phoenix Suns, Jared Dudley chose to return to where his career first took off.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

As Phoenix looked for a stretch-4 to replace Mirza Teletovic they ran into an ex-Sun, who looked to return home. In the 10-year veteran, the Suns found a floor spacing big who can also be relied on to mentor the younger players on the team.

They got him for a bargain when comparing him to the other stretch-4’s that got signed in the offseason.

The Houston Rockets gave Ryan Anderson a four-year, $80 million dollar deal. When comparing that to Jared Dudley’s three-year, $30 million dollar contract, you start to understand why he’s underpaid.

An argument can be made that Jared Dudley is actually the better overall player, compared to Ryan Anderson. Besides being more of a volume scorer and shooter, Dudley is a more complete player, who can help you on both ends of the floor. Sure, Anderson is a better scorer, but he’s a complete liability on the defensive end.

That’s why getting Jared Dudley for the price they did was such a steal for Phoenix.
