NBA: Power Ranking Every Team’s Bench Unit Entering 2016-17
By Mason McFee
18. Milwaukee Bucks
Starters – Matthew Dellavedova, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker, Miles Plumlee
Bench – Tyler Ennis, Rashad Vaughn, Malcolm Brogdon, Mirza Teletovic, John Henson
Put the gun down, I know. MCW and Greg Monroe are not in either unit and here’s why – I believe a major trade is coming for the Bucks that involves both of them. I can’t explain it, but I have a feeling that they’re going to convince some team they have to take MCW if they want Monroe. If that happens, then my projections make a lot more sense. Please bear with me.
While Dellavedova has mainly been a role player for his career, he showed last year in the Finals he can more than hold his own when thrust into a starting role; and I believe will be given every shot to earn it in Milwaukee with the rapid decline of former ROTY MCW.
K-Midd, the Greek Freak, and Jabari Parker are all locks at the 2, 3, and 4 respectively. The starting 5 spot is the only real debatable spot, and I think Milwaukee’s upper management values Plumlee more than Henson despite what their respective contracts may say.
Now, in this hypothetical Milwaukee roster, another former Syracuse star earns the backup PG role.
Former UNLV sniper Rashad Vaughn will be draining threes from setups from Ennis and rookie (and former UVA star) Malcolm Brogdon who are both excellent facilitators.
Mirza Teletovic is a criminally underrated stretch 4 who just gives the young Bucks 3PT shooting they so desperately need. Henson is there to grab boards and block shots.
I like this bench unit better than most, but this roster experienced a lot of overturn this offseason and will have to get used to playing with each other. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later, but maybe with whoever the Bucks net in the Monroe trade will help accelerate their rebuild and allow their bench to thrive.
