NBA 2016-17 Western Conference Roundtable: Favs, Trades And More
Who Will Have A Better Season: Karl-Anthony Towns or Anthony Davis?
Saenz: I’m going to put my money on KAT. Love AD, but just simply not confident he can remain healthy.
Little: Karl-Anthony Towns. Coming off of a rookie of the year performance, Towns will continue to get better and better. With Anthony Davis’ history of injuries, they will likely play another factor this season, as he is already questionable for opening night. Towns has the complete package as a 7’0 center and has shown glimpses of greatness. Also, he will look to lead the T’wolves to the NBA playoffs, marking the first time Minnesota has seen the post season in 12 seasons.
Merrion: KAT…Anthony Davis can’t seem to stay healthy.
Blochlinger: Both of these guys are special. Davis can do just about anything defensively and is too long to guard for most 1-on-1. That being said, I think Karl-Anthony Towns will take a huge step forward with teammate Andrew Wiggins that will push the Timberwolves into the playoffs for the first time in awhile. Towns will have a breakout year this year and will become a household name before long.
Jenkins: Anthony Davis. These are two of the best young players in the league, which is interesting because of the buzz around each one. Everyone was ready to board the Davis hype train last year, but he struggled to stay healthy all year and dropped off many radars as a result. It feels like Karl-Anthony Towns is in a similar spot in 2016. The point of this long intro is that it’s easy to forget how good Anthony Davis is. His supporting cast should also help him thrive this season, which is important to a player’s development.
Rippon: Anthony Davis, although these days may be numbered. Towns is today’s NBA golden child – child being the operative word. He’s 20 years old. Slow your roll on writing Towns’ Hall of Fame speech until he actually plays more than one season. Only 12 months ago, those gushing over Towns thought Anthony Davis would one day walk on water. Karl-Anthony Towns may project better, but give me a hungry Davis with something to prove for this year.
Moeller: Anthony Davis is going to bounce back in a major way this year and KAT is going to continue to be a monstar, but the first month or so of the season will determine a lot in terms of who is going to have the less believable season. With Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans out for at least for the first month, AD could go supernova and carry the team until they get everyone back and return to the playoffs.
Donadic: Karl-Anthony Towns is poised to avoid the sophomore slump as Minnesota makes the jump from a lottery team to a playoff contender. His continuing development should surpass what Anthony Davis will accomplish while trying to carry a mediocre Pelicans team on his back.
Eddy: Karl-Anthony Towns.
