Is The NBA Not Basketball Anymore?
By Mason McFee
There Are Some Fun Teams
The Hornets. The Rockets. The Lakers. The Sixers.
Yes, I just named two playoff teams and two tanking, I mean lottery pick teams in the same sentence. They all are playoff teams (or will be).
For the more knowledgeable about the NBA reading this, you may have laughed and written me off already, or just did. That’s okay. While you’re laughing, so is Kemba at the haters. And Harden at his doubters. And Walton at those who thought he inherited a terrible situation. And Embiid who had people who thought he would never play basketball again after redshirting two years after he was drafted.
Yet, Kemba is averaging 24.3 points per game. Yes, the same Kemba Walker who went on a tear for UConn years ago.
Harden’s beard is as thick as ever, and now he plays PG and respectable defense.
Walton has got the Lakers moving the ball again and slowly creeping back to the glory days.
Embiid is a fiend on social media. I’ll let his accounts do the talking for him. On the court though, he does things that just don’t make sense for a 7-footer to do. Go look up highlights. Words don’t do it justice.
Now, I use the word fun which is not commonly associated with the NBA. The Warriors or LeBron is going to win it all, who cares about the regular season?
Well, how about the guys on the rosters of the 30 NBA teams?
Obviously only one team wins, but whether they show it or not – everyone wants to touch that trophy at least once in their careers.
Even in losses, teams can still be fun. The teams I mentioned are just four of the thirty, but there are 26 more that are playing.
Games can still be fun. The Hornets lost a heartbreaker to the Knicks the other night, but Kemba provided a lot of highlight plays to the bitter end. Games can be entertaining in the NBA, even in blowouts, and they go beyond dunks.
