Back then, you started two post players who never even thought about taking a shot outside of the lane. Can you imagine Kevin McHale in the 80’s closing out on a Kevin Durant who’s playing the 4?
There would be a liability everywhere on the floor and an easy bucket for team small ball.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Players will be imitating and learning from players before them until the end of time. The bottom line is the game is always evolving. Players will constantly be pushing the envelope.
Athletes will become freakier, shooters will become more lethal. As long as the NBA is around, there will always be someone coming up who is better than the person before them.
