NBA: The Six Biggest Surprises From The First Half Of The 2016-17 Season
DeMar DeRozan’s Offense
We know DeMar DeRozan is one of the better players in the NBA for sure, but his scoring explosion to start the season was incredible to watch.
DeRozan opened the season scoring 300 points in the first nine games of the season, something only Michael Jordan, Rick Barry, Kareem Abdul Jabbar have done. DeRozan also became the first player to score 30-plus points in eight of those nine games, something no player had done since Michael Jordan 30 years ago.
DeMar DeRozan is averaging a career-best 28.1 points per game on 47.4 percent shooting, doing so without a three-point shot. Without one of the biggest weapons in today’s game (the 3-pointer), DeRozan has still managed to be as deadly as the next guy on the offensive end.
The Toronto Raptors are still likely one piece away from challenging the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs, but DeRozan has definitely stepped up his game to another level this season.
