NBA Rumors: Anthony Davis continues to vow loyalty towards the New Orleans Pelicans, even though the losing seems relentless

This generation of basketball may not be on the same level of the Magic, Bird and Jordan eras, but it sure is amusing. Not in terms of Kevin Hart’s sheer comedy or Donald Trump’s gimmick facing our country, yet hysterical regarding today’s players’ ability to “front” through the attentive media.

For instance, take last week’s clash between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder as an example.

Everybody witnessed Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook exchange words. Soon after, Durant responded with “I don’t even remember” (even the baby next to me could laugh at that one).

In particular, those “fronts” take place while players refuse to admit that the losing affects them.

Now, we turn our attention towards Anthony Davis’ status with the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite sitting outside the playoff race for the fourth time in five seasons, the four-time NBA All-Star told ESPN’s Marc Stein that this recent losing won’t affect his long-term commitment to the franchise.

"[via ESPN]“Look, I’m here. If I was thinking about leaving, I’d never re-sign [last summer]. I’m here to stay,”"

Even though the Pelicans closed the first half of the season with a 23-34 record, sporting a 22nd ranked defense and 21st ranked offense, Pelicans fans should celebrate in style, unbending at Bar Tonique and Bacchanal Wine, for much as Davis wants to “put this franchise back on the map”. Right? (Hah, think again). It’s time to hear some truth, New Orleans.

Davis possibly feels New Orleans can contend in due time. With his comment, “our front office is doing everything to improve our team every day,” and that is laughable regarding the team’s biggest acquisitions for the 2016-17 campaign were Solomon Hill, E’Twaun Moore, Terrence Jones and Lance Stevenson.

However, the fact that the Pelicans are eyeing a trade for Jahlil Okafor – if that’s in fact true – is a positive sign.

The ground beyond trading for Okafor revolves around Anthony Davis. Okafor would boost that frontcourt and bring New Orleans another proven scorer, no question. Yet, it remains to be seen if New Orleans can actually close that deal before next week’s NBA Trade Deadline.

If New Orleans doesn’t trend towards competing soon, that loyalty that Davis echoed could soon turn. Even though you may not buy the “Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook teaming up in LA” rumor, don’t get rattled if it begins to materialize.

More than that, you can’t trust loyalty. LeBron left Cleveland and Dwyane Wade left Miami. All you need to know.

The clock is ticking for New Orleans. Davis remains committed though considering how long is the question.
