NBA Trade Rumors: The Washington Wizards have acquired Bojan Bogdanovic from the Brooklyn Nets

The Washington Wizards were in the trade market for a bench scorer and defender. Less than 24 hours before the NBA Trade Deadline, the Wizards accomplished one of those goals.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowksi, the Wizards have acquired Bojan Bogdanovic from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton and a first-round pick. As part of the deal, the Nets will also send Chris McCullough to Washington.

The Wizards will likely continue to skim the trade market for a cheap wing defender.

"Nets are sending Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough to the Wizards for Andrew Nicholson and a 2017 first-round pick, sources tell @TheVertical.Nets were determined to get a first-round pick for Bogdanovic, a restricted free agent. This likely gives Brooklyn two picks in the 20’s.Sources: Washington’s Marcus Thornton joins Nicholson in the trade package to Brooklyn."

It was reported earlier this week that the Nets were in the process of selecting the best offer in exchange for Bogdanovic. As Woj notes, Brooklyn was seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Bojan. And that’s essentially what they got, along with a couple fillers.

Bogdanovic was averaging a career-high 14 points and four rebounds in nearly 27 minutes per game this season with the Brooklyn Nets.

He’ll likely take on a big role off the bench for the Wizards, who desperately needed the scoring punch. This season, the leading bench scorer for the Wizards was Marcus Thornton, who is now a Brooklyn Net. He was averaging 6.6 points per game.

That simply can’t cut it for a team that was looking to challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers in the East. Even though Bogdanovic won’t be a huge game-changer, he could help tip the scales a bit. If nothing else, could make the East playoffs a lot more interesting.
