NBA Rumors: The Philadelphia 76ers officially announce that Ben Simmons will miss the remainder of the season with his foot injury
During a press conference with local media today, Philadelphia 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo officially announced that Ben Simmons will in fact miss the rest of the 2016-17 NBA season
Simmons, who suffered the foot injury before the season started, has not still technically not made his NBA debut. Now that Simmons is out for the year, this will mark a fifth straight season in which a Sixers big man has missed an entire season, per Sixers beat writer Tom Moore.
Those players having been Andrew Bynum, Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid (twice) and now Simmons.

"[Transcribed via Sixers Sense]Bryan Colangelo announces that there has not been full healing of Ben Simmons foot, and that BS will not play this year.BC is saying that they hope Simmons will play in Summer League with new draft picks."
Colangelo also noted that Joel Embiid, who has been sidelined with a bone bruise and has missed the last 11 games, will miss at minimum the next four games. Though, the likelihood is that he’ll probably miss more than that.
Back to Simmons, this is probably the step that needed to be taken. Even if his latest scan came back clean, there was really no point to rush Simmons back onto the court.
Philadelphia is looking to make a playoff push, and has made great strides this season based on Embiid’s emergence alone. The smart move is to let Simmons heal at his pace, and come back strong next season. I would even have reservations about playing him in the Summer League.

But that’s probably a conversation to be had down the road. Nevertheless, the Sixers should feel good about the direction of the franchise. They’re on the right track.
