NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant is expected to miss at least four weeks with a MCL sprain

There’s good news and bad news for the Golden State Warriors.

The good news is that Kevin Durant isn’t expected to miss the remainder of the season. He’s expected to be back at some point this year. However, the bad news is that he will at least miss four weeks with what’s being characterized as a bone bruise and MCL sprain.

According to the official release by the Warriors:

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"He will be out of action indefinitely and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. There is no timetable for his return, but it has not been ruled out that he could play again before the end of the regular season."

Obviously, this release paints a really broad picture. It essentially says that he could return in four weeks, or he could miss the remainder of the regular season. We really won’t know until he gets re-evaluated in a month.

However, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, there is “optimism” from Kevin Durant’s camp today.

"[via ESPN]There is much optimism TODAY from Kevin Durant’s Camp and the Warriors that KD will return for the postseason, but could obviously change depending on how quickly he heals. Also have to be cautious of his long-term health."

Question is, do the Warriors need Durant to return at all during the regular season? Probably not. This team has already hit its stride with this new core, and would actually survive without Durant for the next six weeks.

However, Golden State has to hope that Durant returns healthy. This injury is similar to the one that hampered Stephen Curry during last year’s postseason run. If you remember, Curry never really looked the same since the injury.
