The Cleveland Cavaliers are the defending NBA Champions, but that doesn’t mean they’re a lock to make it back to the NBA Finals
Draymond Green’s Game 5 suspension will always be one of the greatest “what ifs” in NBA history.
Yeah, I know, I’ve heard it all:
“Draymond is a dirty player.”
“Cleveland WON. Can’t you just let them have it?”
“The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead.” OH REALLY? I WOULD NEVER HAVE GUESSED BY EVERYONE AND THEIR CAT TWEETING IT EVERY 3 SECONDS. NOT LIKE I OR ANYONE ELSE WATCHED IT HAPPEN OR ANYTHING.
Well, as I write this, we’re in March AND WARRIORS BLEW A 3-1 LEAD. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
In all seriousness though, think about it. Let’s just say for argument’s sake Draymond wasn’t suspended. Do you really think the Warriors would have let it gone to Game 7? Game 6, maybe. But Game 7? I don’t think so. I think the Warriors would have gone, as Aubrey Graham once said: “Baaaack to back.”
Regardless, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the reigning NBA Champs, and it was an incredible comeback. While everyone just assumes that we will be seeing a rematch of last year’s Finals, I’m not so sure; and this was true before K.D. went down last night with a knee injury that caused them to hurriedly sign veteran Matt Barnes for the rest of the season; not on a 10-day contract.
(Matt Barnes and Draymond Green are on the same team. Let that one sink in).
While it’s hard to root against the Cavs after they made a trade to acquire veteran sharpshooter (and one of the most quality human beings in the NBA) Kyle Korver, and have already signed Deron Williams to give LeBron his playmaker and former Warriors big man Andrew Bogut on the way (oh the irony); I’m not convinced they’re a lock for a Finals berth.
Let’s explore why I think so, shall we?
