The Boston Celtics selected Jaylen Brown from California with the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, and everyone freaked. Slowly but surely, Jaylen Brown is on his way to being a star

When the Boston Celtics were assured of the third pick after the lottery last summer, everyone wanted them to go Brandon Ingram, Kris Dunn or trade the pick.

Ingram didn’t fall, and they passed on Dunn. What was then seen as a two player draft has definitely lived up to the expectations of disappointing, but Brown is definitely not a part of that group.

Brown might not be having the best rookie season statistically, but if you watch the film and gauge an opinion from people thave have seen him and the others play, it would be almost unanimous he seems to have the brightest future out of the 2016 NBA Draft class.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Brown is playing only 17 minutes per night, but in those sample sizes, he is doing a lot. On the season he is averaging seven points, one assists and three rebounds on 45 percent shooting from the floor. He’s also shooting 35 percent from three-point range.

Brown has also rapidly improved this season. Over the last 10 games, where he is playing about 26 minutes per contest and more “quality’ minutes, he is posting a line of 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Those are quality starter numbers even under the 30 minutes per game threshold. He also is shooting 55 percent from the floor in that span. Brown isn’t just getting it done on the stat sheet either. Jaylen Brown has displayed the tools on the defensive end of the floor to be very successful and excel on that end as well. He has seen big minutes against premier NBA players and offensive talents and has held his own consistently.

Brown widely was considered the biggest project amongst the expected lottery picks in the 2016 draft, and he has been a project, yes, but one that will receive an A+. It is evident that Brown hasn’t even come to close to tapping out his potential and still has so much to learn on both ends as well.

He has shown prowess and the ability in almost every aspect of basketball and will only get better, now especially with an upcoming full offseason in an NBA camp and playoff minutes.

As a Boston Celtics fan, I really wanted someone like Jamal Murray who could flat out score, but my realistic exception and want was Jaylen Brown. I am happy the Celtics made the decision to pick him. I am very excited for what is in store.
